Abraham Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address. Lincoln wrote it to honor the bravery and valor of the soldiers who laid down their lives for America. Lincoln described the United States as a New Nation. Lincoln refers to the founding fathers to make people get together and fight. The speech says the soldiers were fighting for freedom and life of the nation. Lincoln believed the purpose of the war was to see if the nation could stand. Lincoln said we could learn the principles of human equality from the battle. Lincoln is referring to democracy when he says "of the people, by the people, for the people." When Lincoln says a "new birth of freedom" he means the new nation everyone is going to be free, including African Americans. The speech is considered one of the most important in American History because it remade America. Lincoln never mentions Gettysburg in his speech because the battle was more about the war. Lincoln says the government may perish from the earth because of the war and we could prevent it from happening. Lincolns speech is well loved because it's efficient and almost poetry. All people are created equal. People thought Lincolns speech was too short, a embarrassment, and not very good.
